Disney recently announced the cast for the Live Action ‘The Lion King’ set to be released in the summer of 2019 and the web has been buzzing at the array of stars in the line-up.
Multi Grammy Award winner Beyonce is set to play the role of Nala with ‘Atlanta’ star Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones who voiced Mufasa in the original animation reprises his role in the Live Action. Other stars in the line-up include Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon. US Late-night host John Oliver will portray the Hornbill Zazu, Mufasa’s majordomo and later Simbas’ guardian and mentor.
The original animated version of ‘The Lion King’ which premiered in 1994 became one of the highest-grossing animated fims of all time with a box office total of $968,483,777 million and with the box office success of the Live Action versions of ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘Beauty And The Beast’ both grossing around $966,550,600 million & $1,263,521,126 billion respectively according to boxofficemojo. I must say I’m really looking forward to the Live Action version of one of my favourite childhood films, so fingers crossed that it really lives up to the hype.
